Things to Do in Los Angeles

Los Angeles is one of the most exciting cities in the United States. It's the second largest in population after New York City. There are plenty of places to go in and around LA, like Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Disneyland, Universal Studios, Laguna Beach, and Catalina.

Hollywood is where the bulk of the American movie industry is located and home to many celebrities. The Avenue of the Stars features a sidewalk with footprints of hundreds of celebrities from the past several decades. Universal Studios is also nearby. This is a theme park with many attractions, including a tram tour which goes through Universal City, where the sets of several movies and TV shows are located.

Disneyland is certainly worth seeing, especially for families with children. I remember my first visit there on my sixth birthday, which was one of the happiest days of my life. I rode on the Peter Pan ride twice. Since then, I've been back four times, including once as a young adult.

Beverly Hills is a very ritzy suburb of Los Angeles. It features some quite upscale shops on Rodeo Drive, which are something to see. It also features some very good restaurants. It's well worth a day's trip.

Laguna Beach features several terrific art galleries. One can walk along the street all day touring the galleries as well as some other very interesting shops, including a very interesting fossil and mineral store. Laguna Beach also has a great playhouse and some very fine restaurants.

Catalina is a wonderful, romantic island located just 22 miles west of Long Beach. One can get there by ferry in about an hour. The main town is Avalon. It's very small, just two streets wide and about a mile long, but well worth seeing. The rest of the island is also quite interesting. My girlfriend and I took a bus tour of the island and we weren't at all disappointed.
